A Serving Community In Christ
Service WITHIN the church includes a variety of teaching roles, program activities, boards, committees and task forces, all of which enable the congregation to care for one another and to reach out to the community, the nation and the world.
Service OUTSIDE the church is the ministry of the laity. We ask our members to identify as their ministsry whatever occupies their weekday lives beyond the walls of our building.
Baptist Temple has also helped start neighborhood based ministries, such as Covenant House as a drop-in and emergency assistance center, Manna Meals where three free meals are served daily to the hungry and homeless, and the Religeous Coalition for COmmunity Renewal which serves those in need of affordable housing and shelter.
Baptist Temple began and houses PRO-KIDS, an after-school tutoring and enrichment ministry to elemantary age children from a nearby school. Our members volunteer to serve with these and many other local programs as an expressions of their Christian commitment. Members of our congregation were instrumental in forming The East End Coalition for Families.
Baptist Temple is also one of the top mission-giving churches within our West Virginia Baptist Convention and the entire American Baptist denomination. We give to missions more than $100,000 each year, and our members and young people often volunteer in local, national, or international mission work projects.
